Overhand Grip Back Barbell Row – How to and Common Mistakes

The barbell bent-over row using the overhand grip is a perfect multi-joint exercise for your back.

In fact, this compound exercise activates several muscles at the same time, including the latissimus dorsi (latissimus dorsi or lats), trapezius, rhomboids and posterior deltoids. In addition, the bent-over row also requires a certain amount of effort from the core muscles, which are responsible for stabilizing the body and rely on muscles in the abdomen, back and hips.

A bent-over row involves basically three movements: shoulder extension, scapular adduction, and elbow flexion. By using the overhand grip, in addition to the upper and middle back represented by the trapezius and rhomboids, you also activate the back of the shoulders a lot. This is different from using an underhand grip, for example, where the biceps take on part of the protagonism.

The benefits of this exercise are muscle hypertrophy, improved body posture, strength gain, reduced risk of injury and increased balance and stability. What's more, your back can be bigger and more defined than ever.
