Do this to burn a lot more calories on the treadmill

One tip for making your treadmill training session more productive is to vary both your pace and incline.

Personal trainer Dan Bulay suggests that many people underestimate the use of incline on the treadmill, but research supports the idea that walking on an incline significantly increases the difficulty of the workout.

Increasing the treadmill incline is also an option for those who have difficulty picking up speed or transitioning from walking to running, according to the personal trainer.

For those who can vary both walking speed and treadmill incline, fitness experts recommend engaging in interval training, which involves alternating workout intensity and/or activities performed.

Gillian Dalby, vice president of fitness at CAZ Training Club in Newport Beach, California, suggested two simple options during an interview with CNN:

Option 1

A workout suggestion is to get on the treadmill and alternate between one minute of walking, one minute of jogging (jogging or running at a slow or paused pace) and one minute of running, over the course of 18 minutes.

Gillian Dalby points out that this type of training keeps your mind busy, avoids monotony and is an excellent way to build endurance and speed.

Option 2

One workout suggestion is to walk on the treadmill for one minute at no incline, followed by one minute at a 4% incline and one minute at an 8% incline.

Repeat this sequence five times.

If you find both workouts too easy, you can double the time to 36 minutes or do both workouts back to back.

Dalby emphasized that the goal is to get comfortable on the treadmill before you start experimenting with different speeds and inclines as you continue to progress through your workouts.

However, it is important to point out that, to ensure safety and avoid injuries, it is recommended to talk to a physical educator responsible for your training and be accompanied by him when making these changes on the treadmill.

The professional will be able to offer proper guidance and ensure that you make the changes correctly.
