Tragic death of 13-year-old teenager after overdose of anti-allergy in tiktok challenge

"A tragic event resulted in the death of 13-year-old Jacob Stevens after ingesting more than 14 allergy pills as part of a viral challenge known as the 'Benadryl Challenge' on TikTok.

The 'Benadryl Challenge' emerged in 2020 and consists of ingesting an excessive amount of the antiallergic drug Benadryl, with the aim of inducing hallucinations, while recording the body's reaction in videos shared on the platform."

Sadly, this dangerous trend has resulted in not only the tragic death of Jacob Stevens, but also a 15-year-old girl in the year 2020.

In Jacob's case, as soon as he swallowed the pills, his body began to experience contractions and he had to be rushed to the hospital. After six days of hospitalization and a battle for life, doctors confirmed the teenager's brain death, and the family had to make the painful decision to turn off the devices that kept him alive.

The risks of the Benadryl challenge, from TikTok

The Benadryl Challenge poses a grave danger. Experts emphasize that the dose needed to induce hallucinations is very close to the amount that can result in death.

Large amounts of this drug can trigger seizures and heart problems. According to Scott Schaeffer, former director of the Oklahoma Poison and Drug Information Center, high doses of this drug can cause the heart to lose its rhythm and fail to circulate efficiently.
