Português Puro: the Project Celebrating Portuguese Culture and Identity
Not all music needs to be about love or partying — there's also room for projects dedicated to celebrating identity, history and belonging. That's the spirit behind Português Puro, a music project focused on honouring Portuguese culture and history.
Português Puro pays particular attention to the stories of Portuguese emigrants — men and women who left in search of a better life, often due to a lack of opportunity created in Portugal, and who carry with them, wherever they go, a deep connection to their roots. It's a recurring theme in the country's recent history, and the project seeks to give it a voice through music.
As is common with projects still taking their first steps, Português Puro currently has a small listener base on streaming platforms. That doesn't diminish the value of the project, though: anyone looking for Portuguese music with a clear message of pride in national identity and solidarity with those who had to leave will find here a genuine project still under construction.
